Huertas, Enrique

Dr. Enrique Huertas attended the University of Havana Medical School and specialize in the field of Radiology. During that time he became very involved in Cuban politics and subsequently became the President of the Student Federation (La FEU). In 1964 he and 87 Cuban Physicians founded the Colegio Medico Cubano Libre en el Exilio. This distinguished group became members in the World Medical Association (WMA) in 1967 In 1978 he became President of the World Medical Association which was the first time a president had been named without representing a country.  In 1971 he held the first Cuban Medical Congress which became a biyearly even where the most renowned physicians and country leaders from in and around the world presented and debated the advances in medicine.  Dr Huertas passed away in Miami, in 2013.
