Sánchez Boudy, José

Jose Sánchez Boudy was born in Havana.  He studied at the Marist’s Brothers School and at the School of Law of the University of Havana.   In the 1950s he was considered one of the most important and successful criminal lawyers in Cuba.  In exile since the 1960s, he was a professor at the University of Puerto Rico and Professor Emeritus of the University of North Carolina at Grenssboro, where earned a bachelor’s degree. In Madrid he received a doctorate in philosophy and letters from the Universidad Complutense. For many years he kept a weekly opinion column in the Diario Las Americas newspaper in Miami. With more than 100 books published in the most varied literary genres, Sánchez Boudy worked tirelessly to preserve the essences of Cuban culture and traditions. José Sánchez-Boudy’s most popular book is Diccionario De Refranes Populares Cubanos (slang and proverbs).  He passed away in 2016.
